March, 13th. 1900.
sir,
I beg very respectfully to lay before you the following statement for transmission to His Excellency the Governor regarding the emoluments attached to the appointment which I have the honour to hold, and to humbly solicit that he will be pleased to recommend The Right Honourable The Secretary of State for the Colonies to sanction such an increase thereto as will place me on equal terms, due regard having been given
with officials holding to the high cost of living in this Colony
similar professional appointments elsewhere in the Government Service, or with Officers holding other professional appoint- ments in the Colony, and that the increased salary if granted may commence from January 1st. 1900.
The following are my principal reasons for requesting
a re-adjustment of xy salary: -
Length of service.
E
and
That I was appointed on September 8th, 1887, have therefore completed over twelve years and six months service, and no matter what increases I may have had in
the meantime the fact still remains that my present salary only amounts to $3,600- per annaIM,
Increased duties,
B***
That since 1887 the duties of my substantive ap- pointment have increased very considerably. This may be gathered from the fact that the number of animals slaughtered in the Colony last year shows an increase of 58,906 head more
whereas the revenue derived from than in 1887, or over 48%
the Markets, Slaughter louses and Animal Depots was incressed
Tonourable
from
P. À. May, C.M.G.,
Acting Colonial Secretary.
